I plan to go to Townsville, Australia through a Christian organization called Youth With A Mission (YWAM). I will stay at their base in the city and complete their Discipleship Training School (DTS). The Discipleship Training School is an intensive 21-week program. The DTS is designed to lay foundations of knowing God and making Him known by training participants in the foundational teachings of Youth With a Mission and by providing opportunities for hands on application of that training. The DTS opens the door for ongoing involvement with Youth With a Mission, and provides foundational training that will assist you in further missions involvement, or for personal application in any sphere of society.
As part of my outreach I will be participating in YWAM Townsville's local program called Youth Street. Youth Street is a weekly program dedicated to giving young people (ages 12-17) a place to be themselves, make friends, and know that they have meaning and value. I will also be doing mercy ministries in trips to surrounding towns and in Papua New Guinea. The specific ministry will depend on the needs of the people at the time, but can be anything from playing with local orphans and children, to helping to build a house. The outreach will give me a chance to put what I've learned into practice by serving and sharing my faith in a number of ways.
I'm excited about the experiences that lie ahead, and I hope you see the value in the opportunities for learning and leadership that working with YWAM will offer.
